Hello and welcome everybody, this is Robert for another entry into the Flipping the Script series. Hope you’re all having a good Friday and are looking forward to the weekend. Today is my son’s birthday, hard to believe he’s now 11, times like these really do make you realise why you’re trying so hard to make a business work.
On a personal note I am looking forward to seeing him tomorrow.
Before I headed out to grab my son his birthday card this afternoon, I had booked onto a networking event and had decided to send out a prospecting email to my contact list.
Online Business Networking
As mentioned in my previous blog post, networking and attending business events was one of the cornerstones for generating new business, in the past, so I had booked onto an online networking event.
I logged on for the start time of 10am and waited to be allowed in, I had prepared what I was going to say in the 60 second round and was well organised. So I was waiting to be let in, and as time went on it was apparent no one was coming to allow me into the networking session.
By 10:20, I pinged an email over to the networking event organiser to find out what was happening. There was no response so unfortunately, I wasn’t able to go networking on this occasion.
Looking back, I could have emailed the event organised ahead of Friday and confirmed that these meetings were still going ahead prior to logging on and waiting – notes made for when I go looking for networking events this week.
Prospecting
With the time saved from the networking session I was able to dive into completing this weeks prospecting email, focusing on a bit of a Christmas theme and highlighting how businesses could start 2025 with a fresh looking website and what this would mean for their business.
The email was sent out at 11:15 and from what I can see the email has had a good open rate.
To help improve the emails, I’m going do a bit of A/B testing, splitting the list in half and trying different subject lines, CTA positions and adding additional personalisation to the email to make it more tailored to the prospects industry.
This approach will then enable me to find out what resonates most with those in our email marketing list and deliver a more compelling message to them, which should help the CTR rate increase from 1.27%.
I have maintained my posting on LinkedIn and connecting with new people, which has had a positive effect on my post impressions. I have also had a listen to the CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketers) podcast on LinkedIn, which I found really insightful especially where it talks about the algorithm.
One tip that stood out for me is how the algorithm is working, it’s not just a case of posting content anymore. LinkedIn is also looking at the quality of the content, for instance if you’re posting about buying my stuff or if it thinks you’re not quite the right person to be posting/commenting about a certain field it will have a knock on effect on the original post and subsequent posts.
It is therefore best to keep your content original and tell stories around ideal client avatar.
Bit of an earlier than normal check in today as I will be travelling this evening in preparation for seeing my son tomorrow.
