09. The art of showing up, daily

Hey everyone, hope you have all had a great weekend its Robert back for another entry in the Flipping the Script series.

How are you finding the series so far?  I hope you’re enjoying it, I never know if anyone is reading these posts so let me know if you are in the comments below.

I’ve just got back home from a weekend of a day in Torquay and spending time with my fiancee and we got talking about this series and she asked am I serious about doing a post everyday.

I said “yes, that’s what I’ve signed up to do” and she said “ah but you missed last night as we didn’t get home from Torquay till late”.
I replied, “I got a post put together and sent out whilst you had a bath at 23:00”.

Despite being tired from being on the road for over 3 hours I still wanted to get something on my blog.

Which lead me to write this post.

Showing up regardless

It’s true that even on days when you’re feeling tired, showing up is the last thing you want to do.  However, by showing up even on those days matters, it builds the discipline and maintains a strong mind.

So for me writing on this blog daily is something I have to do.  You might be training for a 5k or learning to code or building a business, show up even on the days you don’t want to do it.

Enjoy the process

This one is hard, that being said I am starting to enjoy the process. When you show up everyday you get a little bit better, not by much but a little.

Some days your content, your work, your workout isn’t going to hit the mark, but that’s ok, it’s all part of the process.  Get back up and try again.

Failure isn’t nice, no and it’ll hurt, but through failure we learn.  We learn to try again, we look at our faults and improve upon them and find an alternative route.

You can also analyse your results from previous workouts or from content published and workout where you need to improve.

Builds consistency and discipline

Motivation is bullshit, it’s a finite resource, it’s some kindling to your fire.

However, as we all know motivation dies and overtime it dries out and results in us being either back on the couch or not doing the things we know are good for us – showing up.

The way you build discipline is by simply showing up, doing the work, switching off that one second thought to compromise and go do what you’re supposed to do.

Don’t rely on motivation, build discipline every single day.

That’s all I have for this todays entry, I hope you all had a great weekend and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the week ahead and moving things further forward.
