A Cloudflare Experiment

I’ve been using Cloudflare on a couple of my side projects to see what the effects are on overall positioning in the SERP results.

For years I have told others, and to a point conditioned myself, that where you host your website is a major SEO ranking factor.

This blog, for instance, is currently setup to use the VPS via Cloudflare DNS settings. At present you will find this blog on page 3 rank 6.

Admittedly I’ve done nothing to optimise the blog for it to be found online, and currently if you type my name into Google you will find my company website before you find this blog – which isn’t a bad thing.

However, this morning I decided to change the name servers for my company website to increase the overall efficiency, security and speed of the website.

Time will tell on whether doing this negatively effects the ranking position for my company website, and if it does I will then need to consider pointing the DNS back to its original hosting provider.

At present I don’t have any plans to optimise this website for it to be found via search.

Let’s see what happens.
