ts 23:31 on April 9th as I write this post.
I’m about to set off a firework, not a real one, but a firework in near on every corner of my life from my business, to my training, relationships to finances.
Its going to start with me, Robert Haylor and my own energy, levels of commitment, persistence and determination over time.
We’re going to trial this for a quarter and see where we end up.
Website Design – History
I’ve been a website designer for over 14 years, and today I found myself asking in those 14 years what have you developed. What can you show for those 14 years that make you an authority in your field, not just any authority but the go to person to talk about websites and digital applications.
The answer, not a great deal. I guess the ultimate realisation also came when a client tagged my community news based website rather than tagging the company or even my own twitter feed after meeting with them prior to lockdown.
To me it shows what I, Robert Haylor, have been associated with, and it is not the designing and building of websites – and that has to change.
I want to be designing and building websites day and night, 7 days a week, speaking with people about their websites, writing blog posts about websites, speaking at website events, showcasing our best work as well as complimenting others on theirs and much more.
I’ve equally found that there is a lot, and I mean a hell of a lot, of the website design industry that I don’t understand, and have had very little interest in reading or learning how to use, that is about to change.
This blog was setup last year to explore my boundaries, to find where they were and then push them, so that is precisely what I’m going to do.
Why is this important to me?
If I continue down the melancholy route of just dabbling rather than fully committing myself to finding clients, talking to people and designing and building websites then come the age of 40 I’ll be writing this same post again.
Change, has to happen, I’ve done it with physical activities and I am now going to do it with my business activities.
Action is now what is needed 7 days a week of action.
This change is going to come in the form of increased activity, in marketing, energy and commitment to the business.
New Website Design
There is going to be some pretty strong changes around here to. Earlier I mentioned that I hadn’t optimised this website for SEO, and there was a good reason for that – at least I thought there was.
I’ve come to realise that a lot of my digital assets are hidden, they are still the guy in the corner of the room, very much like me at networking events and business showcases.
I’m about to sort that and make these digital assets, not the centre of the room, but the person that works the room.
