26. Returning to X

Hey Everyone!  Welcome to Flipping the Script.  Robert Haylor back for another edition and I’m going to start by stating the obvious, it’s cold here in Lichfield, yesterday the thermostat was reading 5 but it felt more like -1.  The days are getting longer so that is one major positive, a sign that Spring is well on its way, finally, and its half term.

Last night, I went through my book shelf, I had a feeling that perhaps there were a few books I hadn’t started reading yet.  As I grabbed them all from the various shelves, I counted over 40 books that I have not yet started reading.  I was like, that’s crazy, why on earth am I buying more when I should be reading the ones that I already have.

Most of the books related to digital marketing, business and psychology.

So this got me thinking about expansion, the constant need to buy more whether its books or downloading more social media apps..

When Twitter became X, I did what a lot of people did, I looked to move away from the platform, I joined Threads, and that’s a great platform to use for both personal and business, especially its ability to connect you with other people with similar interests.  I joined BluSky and found that I enjoyed all the feeds, you are even able to customise them.

Yet all of it just felt, I don’t know odd, it was missing that familiar feeling, I’ve built a small following on X, 1k+ and I’d kind of abandoned them in favour of these other platforms.  Going back to my book problem, I realised I’d done the same thing, I’d bought more books without completing or reading the one I’m currently on, Psycho Cybernetics.

So, since the end of January I’ve gone back to sharing on X, I still can’t get used to calling it X and still refer to it as Twitter.

Why?

  • I’ve been using the platform since September 2011
  • Built a small but growing following on the platform
  • There are still great conversations to be had on the platform using both the hours and chats
  • Some of the people I follow, haven’t moved and not seeing their posts on other social networks is odd
  • I can switch between feeds i.e. content that I want to see from my followers, and content I do not.

I can’t say I’ll be stepping into the paid account features or that I necessarily agree with Elon Musks principles, but for now X remains very much part of my social media equation.

And the books?

Well no more purchasing of anymore until these are read, I already have a book challenge on the go for 2025, so lets get stuck in.
